Elden: Path of the Forgotten

Elden is a horror game that will strategically test your skills in order to survive. Uniquely, the game’s story is explored through indirect methods. It’s like reading an illustrated book in a language you don’t understand.

My role began with a friend's simple question of wonder and it turned into a complete translation of the game’s text into both Classical Latin and Ancient Greek.

[Note: Depicted here are some glimpses into my spreadsheet. As this project evolved with the game’s updated content it became vital to keep track of my own train of thought in this task.

So here you can see the four labeled columns: numbers, English, Latin, and Ancient Greek. Those contained the vital information so everything could be programmed properly. The other two columns correspond to the Latin and Ancient Greek columns in that order. They give the literal meanings of the words I chose, and often the easier to look up form of the word so if I need to retrace my steps I can do so quickly. ]

This project was an immensely satisfying challenge. I creatively was able to breathe new life and recontextualize these old languages I hold dear. I knew from the beginning that these features were primarily going to serve as a fun oddity, but I still worked to the best of my abilities and I believe I made something truly special.
